FOX35 Ray Villeda Orlando

In July 2021, Ray Villeda became a member of the FOX 35 staff. He now anchors the NewsEdge at 8:00 p.m. and contributes to all newscasts. Villeda is a former reporter for Tri-State audiences at WNBC in New York, where he covered a number of high-profile stories. The Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA), which gave NBC 4 New York the 2020 National Edward R. Murrow Award for Top Television Newscast, praised his reporting following the fatal December 2019 gunfight in Jersey City.

Villeda’s reporting played a significant role in NBC 4 New York’s award-winning coverage of COVID-19, which was recognized in January 2021 with the prestigious Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Award for “creat(ing) a 360 view in real-time of the coronavirus pandemic, with courageous and in-depth reporting on the virus’s explosion in New York City.” The duPont Award, given by Columbia University as well, is widely acknowledged as the Pulitzer Prize of the broadcast, documentary, and online worlds.

Villeda visited Dallas in July 2016 and provided real-time updates on the ambush-style attacks that claimed the lives of five police officers. Following Hurricane Maria’s arrival in Puerto Rico in September 2017, Villeda was one of the few local television reporters from New York that were on the island. After the hurricane, he stayed on the scene to document the recovery for Tri-State viewers.

Villeda previously worked as a reporter for KXAS, an NBC affiliate in Dallas-Fort Worth. He received two Emmys® for general assignment stories and on-camera live reporting at this event. Villeda’s responsibilities at KXAS carried him all across the country as he reported on big topics including Hurricane Sandy, the Ebola outbreak from Dallas to Atlanta, and the border issue. He was able to get firsthand accounts from families who had crossed the Texas-Mexico border because of his fluency in Spanish.

At WFSB in Hartford, Connecticut, he has reported and anchored as well.
