Ted also presented a special on America’s lighthouses for HGTV and the debut season of the Discovery Channel’s “Popular Mechanics” show. For the Travel Channel’s photo/adventure series, “FreezeFrame,” he visited Hawaii’s volcanoes, the caves of Puerto Rico, and the South Pacific islands of Tahiti.

He was a member of the Chronicle crew that won the prestigious National DuPont-Columbia Broadcast Journalism Award in 2002 for its coverage of the Boston Big Dig project. He participated in the Washington Post’s “Great American Pundit” opinion-writing competition in 2010 as one of five nationwide finalists. For his reporting on the “Good Night Lights” spectacle in Providence, Rhode Island, he won an Emmy Award in 2018.

New England Notebook: One Reporter, Six States, Uncommon Stories, his debut work, was published by Globe-Pequot Press, a division of Rowman & Littlefield, in May 2013. Many of Ted’s best characters and tales from his travels throughout New England are recounted in the book. It was one of National Geographic Traveler’s “Best Choices.” Wicked Pissed: New England’s Most Notable Feuds, Ted’s second novel, was published in April 2016 by Globe Pequot Press.
