Lindsey discovered her enthusiasm for community service and public speaking through her membership in Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Organization and then the Miss America Organization. She knew she wanted to use her narrative to educate people about what was going on in their communities when she was 16 years old.
Aside from the news, Lindsey is passionate about teaching people about their inherited cancer risk. Lindsey was genetically tested at the age of 18 and discovered to have the BRCA1 genetic mutation, which means she has an 86 percent lifetime risk of breast cancer and a 70 percent lifetime risk of ovarian cancer. Lindsey has built a personal platform, Power In Prevention, as a result of her diagnosis and involvement with the Miss South Carolina Organization, and has spent over 500 community service hours advocating for individuals who have suffered a similar tragedy.
