During his university years, Bastida heard through a friend about an internship at KFRC Radio and swiftly worked his way up from the mailroom to the newsroom.

Before creating his first radio narrative for the News Department, he began his broadcasting career by creating straightforward voiceovers for the Sales Department. He also picked up editing stories by splicing reel-to-reel tape with a razor blade. “In my first radio station, I received a tremendous education, and I settled in knowing that this is the career I want.”
