It was reported on September 7, 2021, that he would be leaving his position as host of Noticias Telemundo’s nighttime broadcasts in order to host José Daz-Balart Reports on MSNBC at 10 a.m. He will continue to present monthly specials, anchor Telemundo’s coverage of breaking news and special events, and lead NBC Nightly News on Saturday.

For his work with Telemundo Network, Diaz-Balart has won five national Emmys, including Outstanding Newscast Anchor for 2020–2021. While employed at WTVJ-TV in Miami, he had won two SunCoast Emmys, an Associated Press Award, and four Hispanic Excellence in Journalism Awards, all in the 1980s. In addition, he was given a Du Pont and Peabody. He has three times received the Media 100 award for top news anchor, and Hispanic Business Magazine named him one of the “100 most influential people in the U.S.”
