On weekday mornings on Portland’s CW, Emily Burris co-hosts the news and lifestyle program KOIN News AM Extra. In December 2018, she became a reporter for KOIN 6 News. Soon after, she started hosting KOIN’s Saturday evening newscast and helped Portland’s CW start an hour-long program at 10 p.m.
She was a reporter and anchor in Fort Myers, Florida, before relocating to Portland. She spent several years in Southwest Florida covering breaking news and regional stories that captured the nation’s attention, such as the ongoing algae crisis that is threatening local waterways’ wildlife, the 2016 presidential election in a crucial swing state, and three significant hurricanes to hit the Southeastern United States.
After graduating from the University of Florida, she started her broadcast journalism career in Gainesville where she worked as a morning anchor and reporter on the neighborhood ABC affiliate. Win, Gators! She worked in radio and television while a student at UF, earning a BA in Telecommunications upon cum laude graduation.
Emily is from the Sunshine State, but she has lived on both coasts for a considerable amount of time. She spent a large portion of her upbringing in Southern California as a NAVY brat and loved traveling to numerous states on various cross-country moves.
She frequently trains for half-marathons when she isn’t working by pounding the pavement. Running enables her to fully enjoy Portland’s amazing food and craft beer culture, which she has previously extensively researched. In addition, she likes camping and hiking and is eager to discover more of the Pacific Northwest.
