Roxana Saberi (born April 26, 1977) is a former Miss North Dakota pageant winner and a CBS News correspondent. She was imprisoned in Iran’s Evin Prison for 101 days in 2009 on espionage charges. She went on to write a book on her adventures. Saberi was charged with espionage by the Iranian government on April 8, 2009, which she rejected. She was later found guilty and sentenced to eight years in jail.
The allegation against her was downgraded from espionage to possessing sensitive information by an appeals court, which she also disputed, and her eight-year prison sentence was reduced to a two-year suspended sentence. On May 11, 2009, she was released.
