Before relocating to Hampton Roads, Kristy worked as a morning and midday meteorologist at WNKY in Bowling Green, Kentucky. During her tenure in south-central Kentucky, she covered everything from flooding to droughts to tornadoes and even tropical remnants. As the 2020 hurricane season drew near, Kristy fell in love with storm forecasting and yearned to relocate nearer to the beach and the action in the tropics. Additionally, Kristy was voted runner-up for Kentucky’s Best Weathercast in 2020 by the Kentucky Broadcasters Association. She was a part of the distinguished group that took home the title of Kentucky’s Best Morning Newscast in 2019 and came in second in 2020.
She anchors, co-hosts, and serves as the meteorologist for their sister station WGTA in Atlanta, Georgia, in addition to her primary responsibilities as a meteorologist at WNKY. Together with the evening meteorologist, she also started a weekly weather podcast. Ironically, considering her dread of tornadoes as a child, she also made three cross-country storm-chasing journeys. On those chase missions, she did witness a couple of tornadoes, one of which came dangerously close to her.
