Kirsten Mitchell Biography
American journalist Kirsten Mitchell joined WCCO-TV in November 2021 and now works as a reporter there. She is thrilled to share experiences in her home state of Minnesota, where she was born and raised. Mitchell enrolled at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism (Go Gophers!). She also worked at WCCO as an intern during that time.
Mitchell formerly worked as a reporter and weekend anchor at KSEE/KGPE in Fresno, California, before joining WCCO. She covered the state’s severe drought as well as reported from the scene of wildfires. In Panama City, Florida, Mitchell began her on-air career as a multimedia journalist. She reported on Hurricane Michael while she was there, providing crucial information to the locals before, during, and after the category-five hurricane.
She won multiple honors for her reporting, including the 2018 Florida Associated Press Broadcasters Association award for best general assignment story and best overall multimedia journalist. Even though Mitchell’s blood has thinned over the past few years, she is happy to be returning home in time for a real Minnesota winter. In her spare time, Mitchell likes to spend time with her family, go out to new restaurants, run, and go trekking.
