King worked as a special correspondent for Good Morning America before joining CBS News. King signed an agreement with CBS on November 10, 2011, to co-anchor CBS This Morning beginning January 9, 2012. When it was revealed that CBS planned to keep the findings of sexual assault and harassment at the network hidden, she openly demanded complete openness. She was honored for her calm demeanor during an interview with R. Kelly, who rose from his chair and proceeded to scream and beat his chest in response to charges of sexual assault leveled against him.

King drew social media backlash in 2020, shortly after Kobe Bryant’s death, for a CBS This Morning interview with former WNBA star Lisa Leslie, in which King brought up Bryant’s sexual assault allegations from 2003. Snoop Dogg, a rapper, was one of those who chastised King, but he later apologized. She had a lot of help, especially from her long-time friend Oprah Winfrey. CBS had utilized an out-of-context portion from the interview, according to King. The segment did not reflect the “thoughtful, wide-ranging discussion” King conducted with Leslie, according to the network.
