At KGO-TV, ABC7 News, the ABC-affiliated station in San Francisco, California, Dion Lim, an Emmy Award-winning journalist, serves as an anchor and reporter. She is well known for having covered incidents of violence against Asian Americans. Lim has also worked on NBC, KMBC, and WCNC. In 2013, Charlotte Magazine named Lim its Best TV Personality. Dion was raised in Connecticut after leaving his birthplace of Michigan as a teenager. She studied broadcast journalism at Emerson College and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in the field. Between January 2006 to March 2007, she was employed as a general assignment reporter for WWLP-TV (NBC).
Dion accepted an offer to work as a morning anchor for KMBC-7–9 TV’s am news in Kansas City while living in Springfield, Massachusetts, where she received her first on-air position. She also held news anchor positions in Charlotte, North Carolina, and the Florida Tampa Bay region. She moved to Tampa, Florida, in January 2014, where she now serves as the principal anchor for (WSTP-TV) CBS Tampa Bay’s 5 pm–6 pm and #1 rated 11 pm newscasts in the country’s eleventh-largest market. In February 2017, Lim departed the station to work for KGO-TV in San Francisco, California.
At the beginning of COVID-19, Lim was a reporter for KGO-TV where she covered prior Asian attacks, such as the one on an elderly man in San Francisco who was picking up cans, but she also noticed that there were more anti-Asian incidents as the epidemic progressed. The San Francisco district attorney, Chesa Bouldin, and Dion had a heated interview in January 2021. She questioned Chesa about a tragic vehicle accident that Troy McAlister, a parolee Boudin’s office had earlier decided not to pursue due to other offenses, had caused during the interview. After a crime victim and witness complained to the Washington Post that she had given them false and misleading information, her reporting on the incident came under scrutiny.
