Craig first joined NBC-affiliate WIS-TV in Columbia, South Carolina as a high school student, serving as an “Our Generation Reporter” from 1995 to 1997. After college, Melvin returned to WIS in 2001, July as a news photographer and producer, prior to becoming a reporter for the WIS’ morning news team, producing his “Craig Cam” live segments. Craig was later promoted to a news anchor for the weekend morning newscast and the weekend evening newscasts earlier to heading the Monday to Friday newscasts. At WIS-TV, Craig also created various series that covered issues affecting education as well as the homeless in Columbia, among others.
In 2008 July, Craig left WIS-TV to join NBC’s owned-and-operated station in Washington, WRC-TV, where he anchored the weekend evening newscasts. 3 years later, in 2011 July, Craig departed WRC-TV for MSNBC to become a daytime anchor, while also contributing as a reporter to NBC News.
