In 1988, while living in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Winston, and his wife started a small ministry. They traveled to Chicago every weekend to raise money for a two-day Faith Crusade that drew no more than 20 attendees. In December 1988, Winston and his family moved to Chicago. He established a Bible-teaching organization, with services held at the Quality Inn Hotel on Madison and Halsted Streets in Chicago. In 1989, it adopted the name “Living Word Church of Chicago.” In 1990, the group changed its name to “Living Word Christian Center”.
From 1994 until 1997, the church held services in the Chez Roué Banquet Hall in Forest Park, Illinois. As the ministry grew, the church eventually moved its programs to the 33-acre shopping area Forest Park area. In 1997, the mall held its first worship service on New Year’s Eve. Today, the church and its worship space are a multimillion-dollar, state-of-the-art worship center. The church’s auditorium is notable for its state-of-the-art design.
