Smokie Norful Biography
Smokie Norful is a well-known American gospel musician, pastor, author, businessman, and pianist. His best-known albums are I Need You Now from 2002 and Nothing Without You from 2004. At the 47th Annual Grammy Awards in 2004, this album received a Grammy for Best Contemporary Soul Gospel Album. The early years of Pastor Smokie’s life were spent in Muskogee and Tulsa, Oklahoma. He eventually moved to Pine Bluff, Arkansas. He attended Pine Bluff High School and Jack Robey Junior High School there. After that, he enrolled at the University of Arkansas in Pine Bluff, where he earned a history bachelor’s degree.
Additionally, he attended Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, Illinois, where he got formal ministry training. A Master of Divinity degree was later awarded to him by Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield. For seven years, Norful taught history at Evanston Township High School, Pine Bluff High School, and Jack Robey Junior High School. Additionally, he worked for the Pine Bluff Housing Authority’s after-school program for two years as its educational director. Additionally, he sat on Trinity International University’s board of regents.
Smokie received his preaching license and was consecrated as an elder in 1997. He then began working for St. John AME Church in Pine Bluff as a youth pastor, music minister, and associate minister. Norful also led worship for the AME church’s connectional youth department on a global scale.
Currently, Pastor Smokie is the leader of Bolingbrook’s Victory Cathedral Worship Center. He formally opened Victory Cathedral Worship Center in Bolingbrook in September 2005. The church has seen tremendous community growth since its founding. He opened a second school on the south side of Chicago on September 28, 2008, and it has experienced a similar growth pattern. Smokie is currently a well-known musician, recording artist, and composer of music. He won accolades all over the world for his debut album, I Need You Now, and Smokie Norful Limited Edition. The 2005 Grammy Award for Contemporary Soul Gospel Album of the Year is one of his significant honors.
