He accepted a position there as an environmental policy writer for Inside Washington Publishers. Later, he reported for Politico, The Hill, and Congressional Quarterly for seven years before joining CNN in September 2015. Raju had frequent appearances as a guest on other networks and shows prior to joining CNN, including NBC’s Meet the Press and CBS’s Face the Nation. Erik Wemple of The Washington Post described his hiring by CNN as a “towering get” for the network.
Raju has made a name for himself by listening in on politicians’ private conversations. and produced significant news during the 2013 government shutdown and the high-profile 2014 reelection campaign of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. Manu broke the scoop that Alison Lundergan Grimes, McConnell’s opponent, looked to be receiving an illegal campaign bus from her father, who was ultimately imprisoned for violating campaign finance laws.

CNN, however, declared that since Raju had adhered to the network’s editorial standards procedure, it would not take any disciplinary action.
