Lydia Camarillo Biography
Since joining KGUN-TV in February 2020, acclaimed American journalist Lydia Camarillo has served as the station’s news anchor and reporter. At KGUN-TV, she hosts the morning and lunchtime newscasts. Camarillo also serves as a stand-in anchor for the evening shows every day. She had previously been employed at a CBS-affiliated TV station in Tucson, Arizona. She spent seven years there as a reporter and anchor for the noon and morning programs.
Prior to that, Camarillo worked for BLM Land Management for five months as an audio-visual clerk. She shot footage, edited, helped with broadcasts, and digitalized video while there. During his five-month internship at KPHO-TV, Camarillo worked as a teleprompter, scriptwriter, video editor, production assistant, and story topic researcher. Additionally, Camarillo worked as a three-month intern at KTAR 92.3 FM, penning stories for the nightly show and helping with reporting.
Camarillo attended Central Arizona College and the Walter Cronkite School of Mass Communication and Journalism at Arizona State University. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Journalism from Arizona Cronkite School of Mass Communications and Journalism in 2011. 2008 saw Camarillo graduate with an Associate of Arts from Central Arizona College. Over the years, Camarillo has told viewers about everyday heroes, inspirational teachers, and kids in need of adoption and a home.
