Brown went into the business sector after failing to join the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks squad when he tried out in the mid-1970s. He worked for Xerox and Eastman Kodak. Brown began his career in sports broadcasting in 1984, when he was offered a job doing television broadcasts for the Washington Bullets as well as a job as an analyst for The NBA on CBS alongside Frank Glieber. Later in his career, he worked as an anchor at WDVM-TV (later WUSA) in Washington and at CBS Sports.
