Emmy-winning American meteorologist Al Conklin is well known for his local and national weather and climate reporting. He currently works for Charlotte, North Carolina’s WBTV, a CBS affiliate. He previously worked at WECT as a climate reporter and weather forecaster. Conklin earned a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology from the State University of New York, where he graduated with honors. Conklin’s performance in high school and in elementary school is barely noted.
Conklin began working as a forecaster for Accu-Weather in Pennsylvania’s radio station. He stayed there for four years, reporting on the weather and climate as a TV meteorologist. However, he started working in television in 1989 as a meteorologist and environmental reporter at Wilmington, North Carolina’s WECT. Al returned to the Carolinas and WBTV in April 1993 after serving for two years at WINK-TV in Fort Myers, Florida, and for a year at WTVJ in Miami, Florida.
He has since been employed by the station, providing weather forecasts for a total of about 29 years. The American Meteorological Society TV Seal of Approval was given to the meteorologist as well. Conklin won the Emmy prize for best weathercast in 1997. Despite this, Al enjoys gardening, traveling, and studying the history of the American Civil War.
