When he was 11 years old, he started attending Bard College in Simon’s Rock. Later, he transferred to Bard College to earn a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy. While attending Magdalen College at the University of Oxford, Farrow earned a doctorate in political science.

Furthermore, Farrow was a member of a group put up by Ambassador Richard Holbrooke, with whom he had previously collaborated on speeches. For the ensuing two years, he was also responsible for “overseeing the U.S. Government’s relationships with civil society and nongovernmental actors” in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Later, in 2011, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton appointed him Special Advisor for Global Youth Issues and Director of the State Department’s Office of Global Youth Issues.

In response to Clinton’s nomination of a multi-year task team to investigate how American economic and social policies influence adolescents, the office was created. For magazines including The Guardian, Foreign Policy, The Atlantic, The Wall Street Journal, The Los Angeles Times, and others, he has written essays, op-eds, and other pieces. The Penguin Press acquired Farrow’s book, Pandora’s Box: How American Military Aid Creates America’s Enemies, in October 2013. It was released in 2015. In June 2015, Farrow served as the host of NBC’s Today’s “Undercover with Ronan Farrow” investigative segment.
