Mithun Chakraborty is well known an Indian actor, producer, as well as politician who frequently features in Bengali and Hindi movies. In the past, Chakraborty was a member of the Rajya Sabha.In addition, he has won two Filmfare Awards and three National Film Awards.

In 2024 September, the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting announced that Mithun had also won the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for the year 2022, which is India’s top honor in the film industry.

Chakraborty was born in Calcutta, West Bengal, India, on 16th June, 1950. The 75 year-old’s name at confinement was Gouranga Chakraborty.

After attending Oriental Seminary,  Mithun graduated from Scottish Church College in Kolkata with a B.Sc. in chemistry. Later, Chakraborty enrolled at and eventually graduated from Pune’s Film and Television Institute of India. Prior to going into the movie business, he was a Naxalite, but tragedy befell his ménage when his only brother died from electrocution in an odd accident.

Early ago, Mithun was a member of the Rajya Sabha. He has won several awards; two Filmfare Awards and three National Film Awards. In January 2024, The Indian government,  bestowed upon Chakraborty the third-highest civilian honor, the Padma Bhushan. Furthermore, he received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2022, which is India’s top honor in the film industry. The Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting announced the award in September 2024.

Moreover, Mithun holds the record in the Limca Book of Records for the most lead actor releases (19 films) in 1989, a record that remains unmatched in Bollywood.

Chakraborty joined as a Member of Parliament after being nominated for the Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament elections by the Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee for her All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) in the West Bengal Rajya Sabha Assembly Polls which were held on February 7th, 2014. On 26th December 2016, Chakraborty stand down as a Rajya Sabha MP. Later, on March 7, 2021, Chakraborty joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), ahead of the 2021 West Bengal Legislative Assembly election, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Kailash Vijayvargiya.

In 1979, he married actress Helena Luke for the first time. However, the duo only lasted four months before separating through divorce. He later married actress Yogeeta Bali in 1979.

Mimoh, Ushmey Chakraborty, Namashi Chakraborty, and Dishani Chakraborty, their adopted daughter, are the four children of Chakraborty and Yogeeta.

Mithun later on met actress Sridevi on the set of Jaag Utha Insan, and the two were romantically associated in the 1980s. Rumors spread that the two were married. But Sridevi called off the affair when Chakraborty refused to leave his wife Yogeeta Bali.
