Sawyer, who was recording a documentary in Tanzania at the time of the late 2007 chopper crash, was injured severely in his knee before making the long hike to safety with other survivors. His most recent media appearances include hosting the CBS Evening News on July 19, 2008, and covering the Frontline documentary “Ten Trillion and Counting,” which explores the politics of the national debt, in 2009.
