David Yeomans ( born 17th March 1975) is an American two-time Emmy award-winning journalist who serves as a Weekday Morning Meteorologist for NBC affiliate KXAN-T VIDEO in Austin, TX since June 2012. After Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans in 2005, David worked as an assistant carpenter with Habitat for Humanity, helping to reconstruct the upper-Ninth Ward area.

He was checking out stacks of meteorology books from the public library by fourth grade, soaking in as much information as he could. He became a registered storm spotter and climate record keeper for the National Weather Service office a year later.

David went on to the University of Miami to study meteorology. After his first year at Miami, he returned home to Austin for the summer to intern at KXAN’s weather department under Jim Spencer. He also interned at Spectrum News in Austin and CBS4 Miami during his college career.

After Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans in 2005, David worked as an assistant carpenter with Habitat for Humanity, helping to reconstruct the upper-Ninth Ward area. David was a published student researcher exploring the relationship between water vapor in the upper atmosphere and global warming under the supervision of Dr. Brian Soden, a world-renowned climate change expert.

In 2010, he returned to the University of Miami to pursue his master’s degree in meteorology. He was involved in campus media initiatives while in graduate school, presenting a daily weather report on WVUM radio, which was ranked as the No. 1 college radio station by the MTV-U Woodie Awards. He was also the lead weather anchor for Newsvision, the campus TV station’s award-winning half-hour news show.

For his master’s thesis, David studied hurricane formation and served as a guest scientist on an NOAA Hurricane Hunter mission. In 2012, 2013, and 2016, he was asked to present his study at the American Meteorological Society’s annual meetings.

The American Meteorological Society has awarded David the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist seal. In 2019 and 2020, he won a Lone Star Emmy Award for the First Warning Weather University series, and in 2015, he won another for the First Warning Weather Team’s Summer Weather Outlook. In 2016, the Texas Associated Press Broadcasters awarded him First Place Weathercast and the Alliance for Women in Media named him Television On-Air Personality of the Year in 2018. David also serves on the Advisory Council of the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin.
